When I read the scriptures I try and immerse myself in them and apply Nephi’s counsel to “liken all scriptures unto us.” (1 Nephi 19:23)
I was reading in Joseph Smith History and found something that I could really relate to on a very personal level:
The morning after his visits with Moroni, Joseph said: “I shortly after arose from my bed, and, as usual, went to the necessary labors of the day; but, in attempting to work as at other times, I found my strength so exhausted as to render me entirely unable. My father, who was laboring along with me, discovered something to be wrong with me, and told me to go home. I started with the intention of going to the house; but, in attempting to cross the fence out of the field where we were, my strength entirely failed me, and I fell helpless on the ground, and for a time was quite unconscious of anything.” (Joseph Smith History v.48)
I can so relate to Joseph. That is exactly how I felt a few weeks ago when I gave up Mountain Dew. It was terrible for almost a week. The only thing I can figure out is that’s what happens when we rid our bodies of addiction so the Spirit can flow freely.
I think I’ll try it again, someday. Because I’m strong like that.

LOL, and here I thought this was going to be something different and you hit me with “giving up Mountain Dew”! You are too funny!
I’ve been trying to wean myself off of Cherry Coke, very slowly…yeah, I don’t think it’s working, lol! 😉
DP = the nectar of the gods…I hope
You’re funny! I didn’t expect you to be after that inspiring quotation. I dig it.
I too am addicted to DC. I wish I had the strength to want to quit. I don’t. It’s my only vice and I’m just no ready to be translated… yet.
I’m glad you’ve found the error of your ways and switched to consumption of the Drink of the Gods. MD is of the Adversary, so I’m glad you’re giving it up. It’s a little known fact, but DP will be celestialized with us, and will be in a more perfect form–caffeine-free, but still pure and delightsome. Heck, it may even be white and delightsome. But it will be there at the Heavenly Maverick–not sure it will still be called Maverick b/c that sounds sort of rebellious, you know, but you get my point.
I will still treat myself to a ‘Dew’skie every now and then. I LOVE it! But I down the diet dr pepper like crazy to make up for that missing piece of Dew in my life.
That’s so funny!
I (like Mindi) love my DC. My husband tries to get me to stop, but that just turns me into a closet drinker, or more like work drinker; I only drink it at work away from his prying eyes. (MMMM DC, as I take another swig.) I don’t think he has fully connected to dots that I am not snapping at him lately. SHHH he’ll never know.
hahahaha
I’m still off of the goodness that is Dew. Began March 13, 2011. (Please don’t ask me the same question about Diet Dr. Pepper.)
I can totally relate to Joseph Smith! I feel that way every morning. Which is why I am going back to bed as soon as I have some toast.
So are you saying you’re back on the Dew or that you’re still going strong? Every time I talk about quitting Diet Coke for a while my husband begs me not to. Apparently it’s frightening for all around.
