Note: I will be honoring Easter in the style of the Nephites by “going dark” for three days. (3 Nephi 8:3) I look forward to spending a the weekend focused on my EC and the FOMLs, celebrating Easter. With church, faith, and eggs and candy – BLOG-FREE. But, before I sign-off, here is a quick thought:
Sunrise over the Indian Ocean |
I’ve stood on many beaches and seen many sunsets. I’ve seen far fewer sunrises. Even though sunsets tend to be more dramatic and colorful, there is an awesome power that comes from the sunrise. If you have paid attention, you know what I mean.
I took this picture in Africa, looking out into the Indian Ocean. It was really early, it still was dark, and the sea looked like black ink. There was a faint glow as the sun pushed up from the horizon, but it was obscured by some low clouds. But eventually, the sun’s rays began to push over the tops of the clouds. As soon as that happened, the darkness began to recede, as if it were fleeing from the light – like a blanket being pulled back. The black water began to take on the light, and changed color before my eyes. I could feel the warmth as it touched my skin. The dark world was gone – everything was now bathed in light. And it happened remarkably fast.
That’s Easter, right?
What we celebrate at Easter is our core faith. It is what makes us Christian. Christ’s sacrifice is what allows us immortality. It is what allows us to be clean.
Easter symbolizes the greatest event in the history of our eternities. It commemorates real events that truly happened.
I know it.
I have seen the power of the Risen Son.
I have felt His warmth.
I have witnessed the darkness flee.
I have felt the sea-change in my heart.
I know HIm.
You can too.
May you all have a blessed Easter.
See you Monday!
PS: I know that there are a few who will be freaked out by my this, so I am posting a link to a post last year about my Easter traditions growing up: (If you need a “fix” I understand)

Also, as an additional Easter treat, here is a beautiful video provided by the Church that shows the events surrounding the crucifixion and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Enjoy.

I love “He is Risen”. One of my favorite hymns! Also my ward I am in now never sings it at Easter 🙁 I think I should move!
This was absolutely beautiful. Thanks and Happy Easter to you and your family.
Beautiful analogy MMM. Thank you.

Lovely post. I was touched deeply by this video. I had not previously seen it. I will show it to my children as part of our Easter worship.
Happy Easter, MMM. 🙂
Beautifully written post. Happy Easter!
your thoughts are so beautiful it made me tear up.
I live on the East Coast and therefore have only seen sunrises from the Atlantic side.. and they are beautiful. I call it God’s perfect art and power. There’s something about the ocean and the rising (or setting) of the sun that makes me feel closer to God.
I love your posts. So happy I found this blog.
Have a most wonderful and Blessed Easter everyone.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the video. Happy Easter!!
Barbara my dear, of course you can use whatever you like. What a treat to be able to share your testimony of the Savior on Easter Sunday. (I’m trying not to covet)
Have a Happy Easter with your family. I am lucky enough to be giving a talk in Sacrament meeting. Thank you for your thoughts…may I share part of them with the congregation?
Thanks for the reminder of the real focus of this season. He truly is risen.
