4th Quarter Comeback – 2012

I awoke this morning, only to find that someone had taken the month of September. I searched and searched, until I eventually found it. It had been roughed it up, and thrown it in the trash bin, along with the decaying months that preceded it. I was not ready. And here I am – left facing October, completely unprepared. Then I went to work, and realized that not only was today the first day of October, but that yesterday was the last day of Q3 – the 3rd Quarter of 2012.
Do you know that that means?  Those who read me last year do.
It means it time for MMM’s Annual 4th Quarter Comeback!!  (Woo-hoo, etc.)
For those of you who don’t know what I am referring to, you could go back and read last year’s post, here, or you could try and make sense of this ultra-condensed explanation:
I don’t like failed New Year’s resolutions.  So, when the 4th quarter comes around, I reevaluate how the year is going, and make a final push to get things accomplished by the end of the year.  That way, on New Year’s Day, instead of wallowing in guilt and remorse, I can look back and chuckle to myself that I kicked the past year in the beeehind. It was a good thing for me last year, even though I probably “over-shared” the details.
Here’s what I am doing to orchestrate my comeback – and we all love a good comeback. I am going to…
1) Review the goals I made last January.
2) Review my April Conference notes and goals.
3) Watch all of General Conference this weekend.
then…
4) Select the things I should focus on for the next 3 months, and receive confirmation from a higher power, (my EC) and then pray about it.
5) Then get busy. 83 days. I can do a lot in 83 days.
I figure with all three sources – resolutions and two conferences – I should have a pretty good idea what I need to finish up this last quarter.
I must admit, it has ben an interesting year. We have had some great things happen: A wedding, and a missionary departure, and…and…and…hmmm. I’ll get back to you if I can think of any others.
We have also had some bad things happen, that I won’t burden you with. *Shudder*
There have been some monumental accomplishments as well – but, to be honest, my biggest personal successes are mostly from cleaning up self-inflicted problems. Does that count? Or, as Bono would say, am I “running to stand still?”
Either way, by the end of next weekend, I am going to have some specific targets, with about 83 days left to achieve them. I can do this. If successful, I can pull 2012 out of the trash bin, frame it, and hang it on the wall as a year to remember.
There you go, that is the 4th Quarter Comeback. You are welcome to play along. You won’t find a better time than now.

  1. I didn’t discover you and your blog until after Spring Gen. Conference so this is all new to me BUT I did have my own wakeup call abt 3 weeks ago and am happy to say that I’m back on track. I can now thoroughly enjoy conference with a little less things to add to my repentance list.

I think that the reason I so enjoy your messages is that you’re kind of like an angel on our shoulders, forever chasing away our slothfulness.

  2. To be fair, the BoM can be read in 24 hours or less. But it requires the reader to do little else for the space of time.
I did it this summer, and went catatonic for a little while. (I don’t have FOML’s or an EC yet, so I still have time to do stuff like that.)

  3. I love the 4th quarter comeback! I like doing goals in smaller chunks of time. Too many things can happen in a years time that can throw off my game.
I am also looking forward to conference and learning what I need in my life right now.

  4. Good idea! But I don’t think I’m going to get rid of these 50#’s in 83 days…and catch up on my journal…and get the BOM read in that time. I’ll just start feeling guilty now and maybe it won’t be so painful come Jan 1.

  5. I’m so happy it is Conference Time! I like reading your 4th Quarter Comeback posts too, though not as much as conference. Hope you have a Spirit filled weekend that prepares you for a blessed 4th quarter.

  6. I love the 4th Quarter Comeback… and I can’t believe it’s that time again. I’m kind of mad at September for sneaking by so fast without giving me a chance to sit back and enjoy it.
