President Eyring is 81 years old today. Amazing!
Here are a few things you might not know about him:
• He attained crazy levels of education:
— BS in Physics from University of Utah
— Masters in Business Administration from Harvard
— Doctorate of Business Administration from Harvard
• Has always gone by the nickname “Hal,” because his mom didn’t like the name “Henry.” (Even though she was married to a Henry.)
• Served two years in the Air Force – in Albuquerque.
• Read the Book of Mormon 5 times while in High School.
• His aunt Camilla is President Kimball’s wife.
• He enjoys sketching and painting with watercolors.
• He sends daily e-mails to his family, affectionately known as “The Small Plates.”
• Raised his kids in a TV-free home.
• I couldn’t find how tall he is – I found some sources that say 6’3″, and others that say 6’9″. I know from standing next to him that he is absolutely taller than 6’3″.
• His biography was published last year. “I will Lead You Along: The LIfe of Henry B. Eyring.”
• He said this: “Someday, when you know who you really are, you will be sorry that you didn’t use your time better.” (link)
• And this: “We have moral agency as a gift of God. Rather than the right to choose to be free of influence, it is the inalienable right to submit ourselves to whichever of those powers we choose.” (link)
• He is an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, and I love to hear him teach and testify of Him.

Child of promise, and specifically that quote are my favorites. Also, his devotional the increasing law of returns is fantastic.
Thanks for pointing the talk on increasing returns! I absolutely loved it!
I needed that article that you linked to – “Child of Promise”. I am going to read it twice and then show it to my children. Thanks for sharing!
Fun! “Thank you,” for posting “A few things we didn’t know about President Eyring.” He is one of my favorites. A great and good man.
Thanks again,
Grace
Hey!! Awesome! We get to see him tonight – he’s at our stake conference. If I meet him I’ll be sure to wish him happy birthday. Thanks for the heads up. 🙂
