Sunday AM: Non-Inspirational Conference Notes

Good Sabbath!  We are running out of General Conference far too fast.

Here are some non-inspirational thoughts from this morning’s session:

1) MoTab:  I’m liking the gray ties.  And the women were…well accessorized.

2) Unflinching! Elder L. Tom Perry throwin’ it down! (Words I have never typed before.)

3) It felt great, and reassuring to sit next to my wife during Elder Clayton’s talk and not feel like a complete loser.

4) I am so glad I am not limited to 25 works when talking to my kids. I can’t even get warmed up in 25 words.

5) 42 years ago, I sang “Where Love Is” in General Conference with a Primary choir.  And it didn’t take us 20 minutes to get through it.

6) Note for my personal fashion file:  When rockin’ the orange hair, stay away from pink.

7) President Monson’s telling of the brush fire was flat out funny. Not just “Conference Funny,” but really funny.

8) My EC made “hootenannies” for breakfast. It doesn’t have anything to do with Conference, but I thought you should know.

9) One of the families I home teach lives across the street, and I still struggle.  Maybe if they moved to Hungary…?

  1. I would pay BIG money for a parenting book written by Sister Monson…as in his mother Sister Monson! She obviously did it right even with a spirited “Tommy” to raise. I need wisdom from mothers of spirited children that managed to do it successfully.

Fabulous talk on marriage…the parts I heard between screaches. Had a couple having a hard day…which resulted in 4 having a hard day when the two picked who they would squabble with.

Those dresses on the choir were…well…awful is an understatement. Hopefully there’s a small mutiny against the fashion depatment and they don’t use those again, ever. It was so visually distracting I had to listen without watching. They also need to get Gladys more involved to breathe some life and tempo into their songs.

    I love Conference!

  2. Surely you didn’t really sing 42 years ago…you’re not that old. I don’t know about your age, I just know your kids are really little and I wouldn’t have put you over 42 years old…but you obviously didn’t sing as a newborn.

  3. My husband said during Elder Clayton’s talk, oh, he’s talking about our relationship! It did give me warm fuzzies to know we’re doing okay. 🙂 (We do need to do better at going to bed at the same time.)

  4. GASP! Pres. Uchtdorf was wearing a GREEN TIE!!

So that’s where my son and his best friend learned to burn things down (and blow them up).

  5. I thought many of these too. I know for a fact that some members of the choir say “oh man, not THOSE dresses today.”
    Wow! What a powerful meeting.

And yes, the choir really loves to sustain all those notes. I think they are showing off their breath-control, but I don’t like to try to sing along. Too slow.

  6. Are hootenannies the same as German pancakes? That’s what I grew up calling them. Mmmm…..buttery puffiness!
I have thoroughly enjoyed conference. It has filled my soul.

    1. Yes, please define “hootenannies” for those of us who are not as educated in the culinary arts. At your leisure, or course. Perhaps in a separate but rollickingly funny post this coming week.

Or whenever. Never heard of them. And (gasp!), I am not sure I would recognize a German pancake as opposed to a pancake that spoke some other language. Heresy, I know. Please help mine hungered heart, er, stomach.

Thanks. Of course. Always thankful. Yes. Practicing what was preached.

  7. Pres. Monson’s facial expressions and pauses really made that story. I mean, it was funny, but he really told it. Also, Elder Perry! WOW! That’s what I love. And, I made homemade biscuits and gravy for breakfast… what the heck are hootenannies???

  8. No. 1 – Yes! Finally! Gorgeous. And happy to now say I follow the example of the Mo Tab Women’s fashion…with my accessories only of course…. when asked who my inspiration is. ; )

No. 3 – Totally had the same thoughts. This year was our 25th. Sometimes I look back and wonder how we made it this far with so many others in our families falling apart. It’s not easy for sure. But now I actually KNOW what it is that will keep us going for another 25…..hopefully. Loved that talk!

No. 7 – Had to go back and watch again. Hilarious! I feel badly for those who have only the talks in the Ensign available to read. You just can’t put facial expressions and tone of voice in those Ensign articles. Love our Prophet. Hope all the Primary kids were watching and learning from this great man.

  9. Number 7: I love it. I always laugh on the inside when I hear some Latter-Day Saints say that there is no place for humor in Sacrament Meeting… Let me introduce you to Thomas S. Monson!

  10. Pres Monson has comedic timing down. LOL. His eye rolls crack me up. Elder Perry, one of my favorites…hard to recognize when so serious. 😀 But his words were definitely thought provoking.

    What is a hootenannie??
