MMM’s Family Christmas Letter

Merry Christmas! ‘Tis the season to write down a synopsis of our year in review and send a copy to all of our friends and loved ones. Since most of you don’t really know me, and at the risk of exposing too much, I have posted a letter for you, my wise, clever and attractive readers, to get to know my family a little bit more.

Merry Christmas

2013! What a year it has been! The first half of the year seemed a lot like 2012, but then it started seeming a little more like 2011. Overall, it reminded me of 2008, but kinda in reverse. Right? There were occasional glimmers of 2006, but mostly it was later than that. Yes, it was that kind of year for our family.

Of course, the FOMLs are my pride and joy. Here is a brief rundown:

FOML1 is a grown up. She doesn’t live here anymore, so we don’t see her often. But she has a job! I think that is great! Partly because she goes to work everyday and helps people, but to me the best part is that they pay her for it. It is a perfect arrangement. One thing unique about FOML1 is that she is our oldest child. Not a day goes by that she is not the oldest, and I am confident she will continue to be the oldest for quite some time. We love her and are proud of her.

FOML2 is not as old as FOML1. There are many times where he would have like to have been, but now that he is older and married, I hope that is no longer an issue. He has a wife now, and thank heavens we love her, or that would just be miserable for us- especially during the holiday season when we see them so much. They are happy and a bit goofy, but that is part of their responsibility as young marrieds. That, and making me and my EC feel old.

FOML3 no longer lives with us. We never see him, he never comes by the house. He rarely calls, and when he does, he only calls on Christmas and Mother’s Day. He is busy doing the Lord’s work in a far off land. He comes home next summer, which is great, but I am somewhat concerned about losing the blessings that we are currently receiving from his missionary service – so there’s that.

FOML4‘s life is a comedy, except for when it is a tragedy – often on the same day. He would probably like to put 2013 in a gunnysack and bury it in the back yard, which, ironically, is what I have considered doing with him occasionally. But, for all the year’s ups and downs, he is currently in a good place: In bed, sleeping.

FOML5 is the youngest, and has thankfully maintained that title now for 11 years. Should he lose that title, I would run screaming into the freezing night. Some people call the last child the “caboose.” We prefer to call his dessert, because he is sweet, and the perfect way to finish. (The term has absolutely no correspondence to my, or anyone’s else’s weight gain over the past 11 years. Promise.)

My EC is an amazing woman. Everyone who knows her already knows that. Her 2013 was extremely busy, except for those times when it wasn’t that busy. Overall, I think if she had to rate her 2013, it would land somewhere between “Best Year EVER,” and “Just Flush it Already.” She is looking forward to the new year and Season 4.  (I endorse her watching British soap operas because it makes me look more faithful and normal, and far less boring by contrast.) On a positive note: I am not aware of any purchases on her Amazon Prime account for an extra large gunnysack or a shovel, yet. One thing I can say about my EC is that she has not aged a bit this week. And I love her. (Yes, I know that was two things, but I felt I needed to add the second one to offset the first.)

Me? I am excited to begin a new year, except for the part where I write the incorrect year on every document I sign until about March. Other than that, I don’t have much to say about me that hasn’t already been said. No, really. You all know way too much about me because I am constantly writing down every fleeting thought that enters my brain and posting it for the world to see. And comment on. So that’s all you are getting today.

On a sad note:  We lost Aunt June this year. Which was kinda weird, because I didn’t know I even had an Aunt June until about a month after she died. So, it wasn’t terribly traumatic for us.

Well, that’s it! I hope you feel that you got to know us all a little bit better, and that I have not divulged too much.

From my family to yours, have a merry Christmas, and a most excellent New Year.

Love,

MMM & Family

  1. Dessert Baby… perfect appellation. (I know I am late to the party here… so is there any cake left?) Our DB (FOML7) turns two tomorrow. FOML6 turned 10 on Monday. Yes, there’s math. I will say we have aged an additional 12 years over these last two. It’s some sort of space/time continuum thing that comes with babies who arrive in their parent’s dotage and refuse to sleep for their entire mortal existence. At least until he is a teen, at which point (based on solid experience) all he will do is sleep. May I borrow (leverage) the term “Dessert Baby” with your blessing?

  2. That was so MMM, very nice and vague…for some reason and I don’t know why, after reading your blog for all this time and bantering on FB I thought that your daughter was your youngest not your eldest??? So this was actually informative and educational for me in a strange way. I hope that you and your lovely family have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2014…maybe you will be blessed with a grand child! How exciting would that be? Thanks for sharing what you do share 🙂

  3. Great Christmas letter, sounds like you have a pretty awesome family. Merry Christmas, MMM and family!

  4. ya -umm,,,”screaming while sitting in a chair”- not into the night, was Joels reaction when I told him about our caboose – due in July. I was sobbing- so this little one got kind of a loud reception. Considering our baby will be seven when the new baby comes- we were a little shocked. I have a new blog now! You can check it out if you want.
Thanks for the update on your sweet family.

  5. I liked that because I liked the description of your oldest and your fourth child, which remind me of my first and fourth, but because I have five as well I’d say I can find the parallels even in that vague run down of all my five, but our dessert comes with nuts~ she’s crazy!

  6. Boy that was one of those underly revealing, not enough information to formulate anything kind of Christmas letters. I for one, thank you for your discretion and withholding abilities. Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to you too!

Add your 2¢. (Be nice.)
