I was a child of the 60’s and 70’s. Valentines Day was a little different back then. The cards were cheesier, and you only had to give them to people you actually liked. We made our requisite shoebox receptacles, but the only thing that really mattered was whatever candy was attached to the valentine.
Feeling a bit nostalgic, I searched out some vintage valentines from back in my day. They are still cute and innocent, but they seem somewhat….
…dated.
I figure that since my loyal readers come in all ages, I should share these old memories, with a little bit of an update, to make them more “current” for our modern LDS world.
I should probably apologize in advance for some of them. Sorry.
This last one is not funny. Actually it is quite sad. It was created by request…
Here
Biting tongue, indeed.
I think the sailor one should have said, “This Seaman ain’t struggling anymore. May I rescue you?”
Good one.
How about one for being married to the very-nearly perfect woman (I happen to fit that man’s description)?
That would probably be best accomplished with a hand-written letter. Congrats!
Speak for your self boy, but us girls back then cared about more than the candy. Obviously if a boy gave us a valentine it was true love!!!
Funny how little has changed…
My 8 year Activity Days group told me last night that they still make shoebox Valentine mailboxes. I was delighted to hear that.
Okay MMM, these are some of the best Valentines ever and a great improvement on the original versions. I laughed, I thought so true and finally, I think I have to send that Cat Lady one to my sister, of course with credit to you. Thanks for a great start to my Friday. Afterthought, wished you’d whipped up a Valentine for a non-member husband.
Your wish is my command. I added one more, especially for you. It is at the end of the post.
You’re the best! Who would have guessed that Friday the 13th would be my lucky day.
Your imagination and creativity have not diminished with time! I had some good laughs with these.
Funny. I especially appreciated the last one. ;0} I have to admit to being of an age to remember making shoebox receptacles for our valentines…
