NEWS FLASH: I am taking a break. What? Yes, a break. Forever? No, not an open-ended break, but a one-month break.
I have decided to “go dark” for the month of July. No Facebook, no new blog posts, no Instagram, no Twitter. Nada. Not even any new pins on Pinterest.
I apologize to any of you who feel that I am doing you wrong.
Sounds easy enough in theory, but I think it will probably be difficult. Hopefully the withdrawal symptoms won’t be too disabling.
As many of you know, I have been knee-deep in Social Media for 3.5 years as MMM, and I think the longest I have gone between posts is one week. (Out of 800 posts) Also, the magical allure of Facebook seems to steal a lot of my productive time away.
Reasons for the break:
1) I have a Top-Secret Project that I am working on, and I need to focus. (Now don’t be nosy…)
2) Vacation time. My FOMLs are out of school, and time is fleeting.
3) The recent happenings in LDS news and culture have been exhausting! I could use a respite from the seriousness and intensity, (Not to mention the hate mail!)
It will be weird for me, but I’ll be back before you know it – energized and rarin’ to go on August 1. Let me assure you that this isn’t due to a lack of things to write about- I have oodles of things bouncing around in my head. But they will have to wait.
In the meantime, there are a few housekeeping items:
• There will still be posts on this blog! I will run some older posts that many of you are not familiar with, and I might have a few friends step in for me with guest posts. (If you would like to volunteer, email me at mmm@middelagedmormonman.com.
• Comments will be disabled after today. I have learned that the most negative and argumentative posts come long after the worthwhile conversation has ended. I don’t want to have to put down my lemonade to monitor them.
• You can always reach me on email if you need me. (mmm@middelagedmormonman.com)
• For those who participate in Sunday Night Check-in, over on Facebook, I have an idea: Host your own on your Facebook wall. What a great idea! Involve your friends and family – and not just the MMM family.
I wish you all a fantastic July. Enjoy the summer, salute the USA, honor the Pioneers, eat watermelon, play in the water, and enjoy this beautiful world…
…and I’ll see you in August. (And here’s hoping I won’t come back to the sound of crickets.)
Behave!
-MMM-

My inbox will be lonely. You have been a great inspiration to us–I read your posts to my EC almost every time. I usually say something like “Ya gotta hear this–it’s so-o-o good. This guy is a gifted writer!” We are taking some time off this month, too–it’s our 49th anniversary on the 23rd. Thank you!
We will miss you but everyone deserves a break. Enjoy your family time’
Now this is a fine howdy do! I guess I will have to reschedule my whole month now. See what you have done? But for reals, thank you for being you and for setting a bar for the rest of us. Have a great month and know that you will be missed.
This proves our theory that you are really a general authority. Have a good break!
P.S. Oh yes, we will try and Behave 🙂
You are fun. Crickets? Thanks for the reminder 🙂
I lived in the country until about twelve years of age, later moving to the city. After a year or so of living in the city we went back to the old home place for a visit. My first night back at the old home place was a real shock, it was the noisiest nights sleep ever. Frogs croaking along with all those night insects. Just think, all those years I was oblivious to the sounds of “Night Music.”
we will miss your wit and insights, but i salute your choice to spend time with family and gear up for the top secret stuff! see you in August
DON’T LEAVE!!! *grabs onto his pant leg* *gets dragged as he tries to go*
As I read that I had this vision of you (just an ordinary middle-aged macho guy) laying on a lawn chair with his pen in hand and an oversized TO DO list nearby. After all, we all know that though the blogs may stop the ideas will continue to come to you. Enjoy the month!
I will miss you! Have a wonderful sabbatical.
Have a nice break! Best wishes on your secret project. Our stake cancels all activities except Sunday meetings during the month of July to give families a chance to plan vacations and spend more time together. It’s been a wonderful break to have every year!
