Quick Conference Observations, Sat. PM

Conference Center 2The first session had enough goodness and meat to last most religions a decade. With us Mormons, it only represents 20% of the weekend.  As I mentioned earlier, sometimes I am slow to process the big themes, so these are some of my immediate reactions. Most are very shallow. Depth takes time. (Here is the link to Saturday Morning session.)

Here they are, in no particular order:

I LOVE the opportunity to raise my hand and sustain our leaders – especially in my home, surrounded my EC and FOMLs. It is such an important  statement.

The Circle of Life: Tad Callister released sad1 – Lynn Robbins sustained2 – Tad Callister called again3

You know you have been around the block when some of your friends get called and released in General Conference.

I wish the IRS would be content to let me just issue an audit statement like that.

We crossed the 15 million member mark. (I remember when it was 3+)

Looks like the 83K Full TIme missionaries are starting to make an impact: 292K Convert baptisms in in 2013, up 20K from 2012.

Elder Nelson spoke with a remarkable clarity – as did Elder Anderson in the AM. What a beautiful talk, gently delivered. Truth is truth.

The song he referred to was, “Fifty Million Frenchmen Can’t Be Wrong” by Sophie Tucker, 1927

I had a much easier time staying awake through Elder Scott’s talk. It was so personal, and personable. I love it when he speaks of his wife.

Robert D. Hales looks so frail, but what a monster of a talk! A monster I say – wait until you re-read it.

I loved hearing Elder Hales speak of the 116 lost manuscript pages. So timely.

Two speakers in a row with names that begin with the letter “Z.”  What are the odds of that?

Elder W. Craig Zwick drove a semi-truck. I love this Church!

Elder Zwick’s talk was especially applicable to me because of my Social Media participation. “Be firm in information, but soft in spirit.”

Elder Cook: “The role of technology has been accelerated by the Lord himself.” (Which explains my MacBook Pro.)

“What a great time to be alive!” Amen, Elder Cook, Amen.

Priesthood Session in 2 hours, with my sons. It is a great time to be alive!

  1. What an awesome day to to have our tents facing the prophet & those we sustained to lead the Lord’s work.

  2. I LOVED hearing President Uchtdorf so beautifully announce the names for us to sustain and loved realizing how many of them sounded like they were foreign. I love that the Lord loves all of us his children around the world.

  3. Loved every minute – every single talk. I didn’t want it to end. Thanks for your thoughts!

  4. I loved the entire day of conference and was so happy to be able to sustain those who lead us with my family too. For some reason it hit me harder than usual today. I love how I always leave wanting to be a better person.

  5. I love listening to Elder Scott speak of his wife as well. It really captures the attention of my boys too because my name is Jeanine so they think he’s talking about me! (Plus my husband’s name is Richard! Awesome coincidence.)

    1. I grew up in the Washington DC ward where they were, so I love it too because they were friends with my parents. I know who Elder Scott’s parents were, although by the time I was old enough for that, his father (a sweet man!) was a member–but my mother told me the story.

He was always amazing, serving in our stake presidency when they came home from Argentina, but he came as a visiting authority for our stake conference (WA state) and I had a moment to go shake his hand and say hello again. The profound difference in the depth of his stewardship was palpable to me from the man I had known before. He is unmistakeably a servant of the Lord and special witness of Jesus Christ. I love listening to him intently.

  6. Thanks for keeping me updated in my t.v. challenged world MMM

    1. Seriously? If you can’t even read the front page of the blog, you don’t deserve to know. 😉

    2. It means Fruit Of My Loins. EC means Eternal Companion. MMM..be a little more tolerant, my friend..I had read it before when I first joined your blog..but as time passed I couldn’t remember and had to go back and refresh my mind. Even as far a scriptural doctrine, we have to be reminded and refreshed..so not remembering something on your blog should be understood… :0)

      1. I had to look it up when I first ran across it. I assumed an LDS member would never use the vernacular meaning! I assumed right 🙂

  7. I also felt particularly touched by the talks in conference today, and the opportunity to share with millions around the world, the ability to lift my hand in unity to sustain our Prophet and Church leaders. There seems to me, to often be a special and somewhat difference in spirit and theme in the Saturday sessions.Like the Saturday sessions are directed more to the members of the church, and the Sunday sessions more to the world at large. (Not that I don’t love and receive great inspiration and counsel in all sessions.) I feel bad that some Saints think conference is elective, especially on Saturday. My sister used to say (in a tongue in cheek way) that she knew when Christ would be coming again…during Saturday conference.Because that’s when the truly faithful will be gathered and listening.

    1. I feel much the same way about the content seeming a little more “world view” on Sunday.

  8. Yes the circle of life is real-we named our 2nd FOML after Devin Durrant!!! We loved seeing him play for BYU and now we will be able to hear from him at Conference.
