Can I just say that I truly dislike the word “Meme?” First off, for the longest time I was pronouncing it wrong. I guess you are supposed to say “meem,” but in my head I see a French word “même” which means ‘the same,” and is pronounced “mem” as in “them” This also works, because after while, all of the memes start seeming the même.
I alos think the word sounds like word that somebody just made up to describe stuff on Facebook. Meme?
Here is the actual definition from that nice lady, Merriam Webster:
Meme: an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture
Easy enough. But I was close – this word is pretty new, and it was made up.
Because of this, I have managed to write almost 670 blog posts without ever using the word ‘meme” – mostly out of fear that I am pronouncing it wrong on in my head when I type it.
Of course during General Conference, people listen to every word spoken with rapt attention so that they can be the first to create a new meme with a quote and corresponding picture. I have been guilty of this too, but have never referred to them as memes. I always just called them “quotes with corresponding pictures.” (I guess meme is shorter.)
Man, I am way off track. The point of all this is to tell you that I am sharing my Conference Announcement Memes with y’all. Over the past week I have been putting different banners up on Facebook announcing Conference. They have received a lot of shares, so that’s nice.
A few people have asked if they can use them, and I am completely fine with that. So, I have included them below, and also included a link to the original image on Photobucket, in case you want to download the actual size banner and use it yourself on Facebook, or whatever.
Why Conference memes? I love General Conference. Twice a year I get to use it as a touchstone to see where I am, and where I am headed. It is good for my soul.
This year I will be attending some of the sessions, depending on how good my kids are at begging for tickets. Maybe I’ll see you there. I’ll be wearing a dark suit with a white shirt and a tie. (Why a suit? Because I am going to be at a meeting with the prophet – duh!)
My posts might be a bit sporadic these next few days – sorry about that. I will try and post some updates as time and logistics permit. Have a wonderful Conference!
Here are the pictures with clever writing on them. Have at it.

Love the Shadow of a Doubt one!! But I was saying memes completely wrong..me-me(s) and judging how every one on Facebook, good or bad, gets passed over and over millions of times, the definition fits!
Bless you for figuring out how to say that cursed word! I don’t use it either for that very reason. There are words I avoid writing because I can’t even manage to get spell check to figure out what it is, but that is one of very few words off of my verbal list of possibilities. LOL Somehow finding that you too have fought that battle makes me feel in the best of company. 🙂
Also, I gotta say that these are awesome! I think my favorite is the one of the standby line. I LOVE being told to repent by these giants among men twice a year. Getting to have them do it in person = amazing and so worth waiting in a line for it!
I know exactly what you mean! I hate the word meme. It’s up there with “selfie” and “totes” (instead of totally). Oh, and what’s with the sudden overuse of the word “legit?” It’s not like they’re even using it correctly. Maybe I’m too old for all of this at the ripe old age of 31.
Okay, I’m done with my random venting. 🙂
My 16 year old Laurel uses “random” constantly…. It “literally” drives me crazy. “LOL!”
I think Stuart is saying some of “your” signs say Annual and some say Semi-Annual. And you know the rest of the story!
BTW… It’s a bummer we don’t know what you look like. We would wait outside your hotel room or Conference Center and stalk you like the Mormon Celebrity you are! At least I would! Just to tell you “thanks,” “keep up the great blogging,” and “you rock”! And to give you a hug! You are awesome in my book! I don’t live too far away! 10 minutes! 😉
These are so great! I can’t stop laughing! You’re awesome!
Quitely sitting thru hurricane force winds with the power out enjoying your previous posts on my cell phone. Thank you technology and your wit and wisdom. I’ll be looking for you on the big screen. 🙂
Ok, those are awesome. Quit hogging the ice cream. Hahaha *snort* hahaha. 😀
Used the Elder Perry one and people are loving it. Thanks for making it:) And I will forever claim that I am the one that taught Elder Perry about fist bumping.
awesome – i used one as my FB cover — just a note, it cuts off the name of your blog – so you might want to move it over. laughed so hard at the icecream one! 😀 thanks!
Love your blog MMM!!
October’s Conference is referred to as Semi-Annual, while April is the Annual
I don’t doubt that a bit.
I had no idea!
I’ll be there with you in spirit!!!
I’m excited for tou to be able to attend in person. I was fortunate to attend the RS session. I have many favorite moments but I have to say when I saw Elder Holland I was truly starstruck! Then when the Prophet enters, everyone standing, and the once room full of thousands of women all speaking to their neighbor instantly quiet enough to hear a pin drop…. oh and when the thousands of women all joining in song is indescribable. Enjoy MMM. Looking forward to your notes 🙂
That last one cracked me up. Thank you for the lifting the spirits on this gloomy Utah morning.
Very nice. Love the shadow of a doubt one. We’ll be looking for you!!! (on our TV set….do people still say TV set?????) I had to explain to my kids what having one’s phone “off the hook” meant. 🙂 Am I’m still young! ha ha
Yeah it’s only been this past year or so that I’ve resigned myself to calling them meems and not mems. (And considering I’ve been using the word [in writing] for about 8 years, that’s either especially impressive or pathetic.)
