My Own Digital Can of Worms

Can of WormsWho woulda thought it would come to this…

When I started my blog a couple of years ago, I thought to myself, “Hey! I can write stuff, and if people want to read it, they can.” Of course, after the first  month,  my blog traffic averaged 3 visitors per day – mostly from China. Then I thought, “Hey! I should create a Facebook account too, so people will know when I have a new post.” And now, here we are.

Last week I took a drastic step and moved my blog from Blogger to WordPress. I have been asked why.  I don’t have a lot of good reasons, but here they are:

1) People who are smarter than I am told me that it would “serve my needs better.”  There does seem to be a zillion plug-ins that I am still learning about. Time will tell…

2) I created my new blog Bonafide in WordPress, and by bringing MMM over, both can be under the same domain name – everything under the same roof, so to speak.

HOWEVER…this move has opened a proverbial “can of worms,” and some of you might be able to help me push them critters back in the can.

1) Most of my older posts have broken links. I am in the process of fixing them, and making sure things are intact. It will take a while.

2) If you have put a link to my blog on your blog, or are kind enough to have my button on your blog, odds are, it isn’t working anymore.  Here are new, improved buttons, if you are willing. (Thanks!) (Just copy the text under the picture and it should work. 150×150)

MMM Button 150Instructions: Find this ^^^ button on the right side-bar.  Copy the text in the box underneath. Create a text widget, or gadget in your blog’s sidebar and paste in the text. Violà!

To share BonaFide:

Why 2 blogs?  Because there is a lot of good out there to be shared.  The original MMM blog is mostly stuff I write, and BonaFide is stuff that I find. It might be things to read, watch, or even buy. If you have any suggestions, please email them to me, and I’ll check them out.

Now on to the rest of my Social Media Empire. (And by “Empire” I mean “Black hole where all my productive time seems to go.”)

Facebook Logo

Ahh Facebook.  What can I say?  It is a guilty pleasure.  If my blog is “school,” then Facebook is surely “Recess.”  I apologize in advance for the bizarreness that sometimes envelopes my Facebook threads and posts.  Come be my friend!  https://www.facebook.com/middleaged.mormonman

Twitter logo

I’ve tried, but Twitter hates me. I maybe it’s the limited text, or the incessant hashtags, but for some reason, it doesn’t really click for me like ti does other people. Yet I still try. If you would like to watch me struggle, here is my link: https://twitter.com/MMormonMan

Remember, you can tweet me – so that I feel the love.  #twitterhatesme

Pinterest

I am quick to admit that joining Pinterest put my “Man Card” in jeopardy. It is a mysterious place, full of crafty ideas, recipes that nobody will ever try, and lots and lots of memes. Why am I there?  Because a lot of my loyal, smart and good-looking readers hang out there – “pinning” wildly. It helps spread the joy of MMM.

You might notice that a LOT of the pins that direct toward my blog are broken – that is one of the worms that I liberated from the can while making the change. If you have one of these links, please kill it! I’ll make more!  http://www.pinterest.com/mmormonman/

Instagram logo

I put this one down near the bottom out of abject shame.  What would an anonymouse person do with an Instagram account if he can’t take endless “selfies?”  Well, I started by teaching the gospel with Taco Bell Sauce packets. Yeah, high quality stuff. It may very well get better. Or maybe not. http://instagram.com/mmormonman.

Subscribing to either blog:  You can use FeedlyBloglovin’, or subscribe via email. Take your pick – I am still trying to figure out how to bring the whole 1,005 of you over from Google.

EMAIL:  My email is now mmm@middleagedmormonman.com/home/. Feel free to use it for whatever reason you see fit. Unless that reason is to ask me to participate in a fantastic new multi-level business opportunity, or to tell me things that you should only be telling your bishop or therapist. Also – if I have messed anything up, feel free to drop me a line. No guarantees…

There you go!  Welcome to the digital world of MMM. Let me know when something is not working right.

In all sincerity, I do appreciate that you read and follow my blog. The response has been greater than I ever imagined. I can’t help but think there are more like-minded people out there who like to discuss important things, and laugh a little too – so please share!

  1. It was nice when I could read the whole blog in my email feed without having to find a computer, start up a browser, and actually go to the website. Now, the RSS feed just provides a piece of the worm.

    Ah, technology in a can.

  2. I’m no longer receiving your posts in my email. Other than clicking the box below is there something else I can do to receive them? I’m an avid fan…don’t want to miss your “awesomeness”

  3. So. ..can I share http://RealIntent.org as another ‘good place’ ? I think you’ve ventured there a time or two. I’m doing a series on 15 things to give UP to be happy. This month on blame.

So no blaming broken links on a move. . .heh. It is a pain isn’t it?

Keep doing your thing, you are very enjoyed.

  4. Obviously, you have never seen my pintrest board of bad jello and aspics from the 1950s. That put all of our cards in jeopardy.

  5. Thanks for creating a place where I can laugh and cry, all in the same post! You remind me what needs to be taken seriously and what doesn’t, and for that I am grateful. Keep up the good work. I am following you on Instagram, but that Twitter thing-ugh!!

Add your 2¢. (Be nice.)
