• Elder Perry is remarkable for a 90 year-old man. Not only is he current in his understanding, he wore a sweet lavender tie.
• Elder Perry’s lavender tie > Elder Ballard’s periwinkle tie.
• Glad I’m not a honeybee. Just sayin’.
• Still not quoted. Three more sessions to go.
• As I expected, so far there have been no “shout-outs” to BYU’s offense.
• Elder Gay asked an intriguing rhetorical question: “Would you sell your soul for a nickel?” The answer, of course, is “No, but keep going…”
• Note to self: Scrap plans to quit my job and become a plate-glass temple window designer.
• Elder Whiting quoted Paul in saying that our bodies are earthly “temples.” MIne could sure use some remodeling.
• A bonus for LDS Democrats: With Elder Echo Hawk serving as a General Authority, you don’t have to keep referring back to President Faust.
• Gotta admit, I kinda fell asleep during Elder Anderson’s talk.
• Liz Owens is older than me. She turned 52 today.
• I woke up for Elder Oaks. Way up. Hopefully the world will too.
• Remember when Captain Moroni rent his cloak and wrote the Standard of Liberty, and held it up as a standard for everyone to see? He’s got nothin’ on Elder Dallin Oaks. Goodness – that was one of the most important/courageous talks I have ever heard.
• Can’t wait for Priesthood Session tonight, but there will be no blog post, for fear that some of you sisters would sneak a peek.
Here
Elder Oaks did wonderfully. It was way intense in the conference center. I’ve never been to conference live before so I was already blown away. But it was well worth the tears. 🙂
I hope you are kidding with that last comment about the Priesthood meeting. It made me feel like a second class citizen.
Was able to catch this session on am radio between St George and SLC. Every single talk was OUTSTANDING! Elder Oaks? It should be published in EVERY magazine, not just the ones our church produces. I thought to myself, he might take some heat from a few people I know, but DANG, it was on point.
*please be for noting the word dang – just for you*
We don’t have to go all the way to Elder Faust. Remember Elder Marlin Jensen who was released today.
Elder Oaks talk was amazing! Loved every bit of it. Also, Echo Hawk has got to be one of the coolest names ever. Being a democrat is just icing on the cake 😉
Feel similarly strong feelings about Elder Oaks talk. So good. Enjoyed reading your conference bullet points. You never fail to entertain.
Thanks to my little sisters (Jennie and Viki) for telling me to check the blog. Wow! An apostle on the left, an apostle on the right. I’m so honored. Just imagine them as quotation marks and I was quoted by apostles!
Thanks MMM for the BEST BIRTHDAY SHOUT OUT EVER!
You truly made my day.
I’m glad I made your day. But that makes me think your day must have sucked. I am so sorry.
Elder Oaks talk was amazing…he is fearless. I love how straightforward he is. Elder Perry is just the coolest 90 year-old ever!
I need to listen to Elder Oaks’ talk again. Preferably when not surrounded by my kids clamoring for help with their conference packets. The packets were overly complicated this time. Still trying to think of a “Z” word for the ABCs of General Conference. Suggestions?
Gotta be “Zion.” It must have been in there somewhere! Love those conference packets…;)
The opening prayer was thankful for the Sabbath Day today. Anyone else notice that? I suppose Conference is to be a Holy Day.
MMM, you know we all read the Priesthood Session, so don’t hold out with the sneak peek comments. Do you read/watch the Relief Society Session? And why is it only 1.5 hours instead of 2?
I was surprised by a choked up /teary feeling at the age change announcement for missionaries. That surprised me. But it’s more than a policy change. It’s revelation that really will bless missionaries and their future families. Very exciting! So very grateful I was prompted to serve a mission.
RS Conference is only 1.5 hours because there are only so many ways you can say “You are wonderful. God loves you.”
Priesthood is 2 hours because there’s a lot more ways to say “Repent and stay away from pornography.”
Lol…funny stuff for am and pm. My mother is a regular and called to say I must log on and read. Glad I did. Elder Oaks was amazing. We have taken in foster children for the last five years. We have seen some of the things he mentioned first hand. I am also in my final semester of a psychology degree at a liberal state college. Having seen the studies the brethren refer to I must concur with their findings. Might be hard for people to accept but these are the facts. And there aren’t enough people standing for the children.
My fave from today: “and then he shook her head–” That’s still making me laugh.
I can’t believe you are comparing yourself to my sweet sister, Liz….but, what a great Birthday gift to receive – a very historical and spiritual day indeed. I cried at hearing of the 6 year old pleading, “Will you please adopt me?”. Man….yanked my heart. Also – I feel some extra measure of joy at the possibility of my own daughter serving a mission even younger than I did! Oh – so many many feelings and things to digest and absorb and relish in!
Oh, that part with the 6yo to the police officer….tears here as well! I love conference!!!
And I was wondering why he was wishing Liz a happy birthday…..
The story about the 6 year old came from this talk earlier this month from Jeffrey Holland. AMAZING talk – on par with Elder Oaks today.

I’m just waiting for the back-lash on Elder Oaks’ talk. Remember that one last year (or the year before) supposedly saying that Mormons hate homosexuals…? Yeah… I’m waiting for that to happen with this. But I’m SO grateful that he said it. It needed to be said. All of it. And with so much love too. What an awesome man!
Who?

Oops. Sorry, meant MARLIN K. Jensen. Surely you know who he is. He is a big time democrat.
Of course I know who he is. Just yanking your chain.
Well, considering Elder Marvin Jensen is a prominent democrat, we can just refer back to him.
I loved Elder Echo Hawks talk. I worked on American Indian history all summer- It was a powerful experience.
You might as well (do a blog post). KSL will if you don’t. (And quite frankly, I’d probably like yours more…:) ) Enjoy it.
Elder Perry came to our stake conference back in 2008 and I went up to shake his hand. He is such a wonderful speaker and a nice man. He’s also more than a foot taller than me! He was in great shape for 86 then!
I listened to his talk and turned to my 15yo son and said, “He is going to be raked over the coals by some people for this talk!” But oh, how it was needed! My family heard the statistic about how many abortions are performed each year and how many children are born to unmarried mothers and were amazed! I think my children were really shocked!
There are those who would be offended by Elder Oaks comments if they had been delivered by the Savior himself. (didn’t we raise our hands earlier and sustain him as a revelator?)
I noticed how nicely the lavender tie blended in with the flowers. There must be a Sister Perry who dresses him.
That is surely a sexist thing to say.
It’s not Sister Perry that picks out his tie. His friend Scott sends him ties every Conference. He told us 6 months ago.
