“Christ the Redeemer” Rio de Janiero |
Thank you for your submittals. I must say that there were some great pictures of the Savior that I had not seen before. Now it is time to vote, but before we do, I want to remind you a few things.
• This is about what you think Christ looked like in His mortal ministry. It might not necessarily be your favorite painting, artist, story, experience, etc. Try and make the distinction.
• One vote per person. (I don’t live in Chicago)
• You can vote in each round.
• After you have voted, feel free to explain your vote in the comment section. It might be interesting to undersand each other’s perspective.
• Each round will be open for 24 hours.
• These pictures are not cited. If you want to know who they are from, check the original submittal page here.
• Please circulate this – I would like to see the biggest sampling possible.
• There will be 4 rounds with 5 pictures (20 total) the finals will be the 4 winners.
Vote over on the right hand column——->
Here are the entries for Round 1:
A |
B |
C |
D |

D
I vote C!
Even though I voted for c, if b had a hair cut and beard trim, I think this picture has a gentle and kind face like the saviour’s is.
c
Maybe it is Mormon Legend, but I thought Del Parsns was the one who had a dream or some sort experience of seeing Christ and then painting Him the way he saw Him. So my vote is E.
I’m going to totally rock the boat here and vote for A – for whatever reason it’s the one that speaks to me the most.
Loved Jim Caviezel (photo C) in Passion of the Christ and, as the serious Christ, he is perfect. I have to add, though, that the joy on the face of the man in photo D is how He must have looked when He was baptized by John the Baptist. Tough decision today. Thanks for the challenge, though. Look forward to tomorrow!
BTW, I have the non-teeth-showing, gentle-looking photo of Christ in my home and I DO love that one, too. Not so sure about version E… Just saying’
C – he looks real in that one. Like someone you’d see on the street. Someone you’d be friends with.
Come on mom, tell me that E doesn’t look like a long-haired brunette Ken doll?!? It’s like the early 80’s ken doll with dimples and a mullet! I can’t take it seriously!
MIndi: I’ll bet you’ll feel pretty stupid if it turns out that he looks exactly like that.
HA HA! Yes, yes I will. But I’m pretty sure He’ll forgive me. Can you forgive me for being a little cynical about this?
Cynical…yet here you are again.
I don’t mind – just don’t look up “cynical” on LDS.org – it will only make you feel bad. And remember that some of these pictures are important representations to some of the people reading.
Come on Mindelicious you’ve got to play the game and vote. Jesus didn’t need braces I’m sure he had perfect teeth. 🙂 I’m voting C on this round although none of the pictures are my FAV.
None of the above. I believe that Jesus smiled, but I also believe that his parents couldn’t afford braces.
I vote for C in this group, I sent you a picture on FB…
I made my husband vote. You know, to get a more complete sample size. He thinks that most of your readers are women who swoon over Aragorn, and, hence, choose option C.
I didn’t even think of Aragorn! Viggo would be great. (I’m surprised my EC didn’t send him in.)
President Monson seems partial to Karl Bloch, and if anybody is an expert on the subject, I’d say it’s him.
I’m familiar with all of these pictures and they all represent the Savior to me, but I think I’m going with C in this round.
My two youngest, both separately, instantly pointed to E. They both told me that one was Jesus, that made me smile. I’ll believe them
The different opinions are fascinating to me. What’s his name from The Passion of the Christ really looks like my idea of Him, but he also looks like John Stockton when he cleans up. I guess I’ll pick B, just because Carl Bloch’s Christ paintings are so moving to me, tho this one isn’t my favorite. I thought of submitting Carl Bloch’s painting of Christ with the thorns, but I don’t like to look at it with that hateful dude next to Him. Someone else submitted it. Maybe if you crop it right, I’ll root for that one in its round.
Cool idea, Mormon Guy.
The Bloch painting with the crown of thorns will be in a later round. It’s a good one.
I have a complete wrench to throw into the works. He most likely looked like an average middle eastern Jew- However, Emma Smith said that Joseph’s countanance changed so often, and that he looked so different all the time, that no drawing made of him looked like him, and she didnt think any looked like him. I think this may be the case with the Savior. Fluid countanance- Parley P. Pratt said the Holy Ghost changes your appearance. I dont think there is an accurate physical picture of him.
That is most likely true – but that isn’t the question at play here. The question is – which picture most closely represents what YOU THINK Jesus looked like? It is only about opinions – precisely because of what you said – there is no definitive answer.
Oops! Sorry about that previous deletion. =) I vote C.
We have picture “E” on our living room wall, and I love it! So, yeah. I voted. 🙂 (In the poll, even.)
I chose C. Just because I like that one the best.
As far as I can tell the only one with blue eyes is E. Was it Hinckley that said Christ had blue eyes? So I guess I’d go with that one at this point. He is awfully jovial looking in that one. I have an image of him done by a friend of mine (that I LOVE) that I’d like to submit, I’ll check to see if it’s online or not, how would you like that submitted?
I thought most people would vote for C because of face shape, bone structure, etc. I find it interesting most people comment on his smile instead.
That being said I think without looking at anyone’s profile it is quite obvious that the majority of your readership is Caucasian. 🙂
C.
E… I LIKE the smiley face Christ. It’s how I hope he greets me.
C. It’s how I hope He looks as He helps little old me figure out my little old life: interested, concerned, kind.
Picture B is just…creepy. I really cringe anytime I see it.
Not meant to offend anyone. We all have our definition of beauty right?
I chose C in this round because I don’t like the overly smiley ones either, or the ones that make him look caucasian.
Yet someone submitted it and voted for it…
Jennifer, actually…Trevor is a welder and focused fire and keyboards don’t mix too well.
I am fairly new to your blog (which I LOVE by the way) and hadn’t read your previous post. Thanks for pointing me to it.
Thank you Jennifer. Oh – great minds…
Out of these choices I like C. I think of Jesus having a more serious look like in C, ’cause I believe there was always something deep on His mind. I believe He was tender and loving but the grin in E just doesn’t seem to fit Him, for me. My favorite is the original Del Parson one that appeared on the cover of the Ensign long long ago, so I will vote for that one if it comes up!
I have wanted to post about this topic for a couple of days but I needed some time to gather my thoughts. Over and over I have pondered this question and the only thing that keeps coming back to me is the memorable question line from a song that says…”Have you received His image in your countenance?” While it is really interesting to see people’s ideas of the what our Savior looked like and I applaud you for your ingenuity in this matter I want to believe that we all resemble Christ as we have embraced his life and teachings and truly have received his “image” in our own countenances (is that a word?)
Jennifer (Or Trevor?)
I have had those same thoughts, and mentioned them in a post last year that you might enjoy: http://middle-agedmormonman.blogspot.com/2011/02/sunday-naptime-profundity-2.html
Thanks!

I love the smile on D but my vote is for C
I vote for E.
Vote for E
I’m going to say D. I just found your blog and I’m really enjoying reading it. Thank you.
I love C, D, and E. They really could be the same person, just different expressions, serious, joyful, and loving.
C’mon Rozy – Commit!
One vote per round. You can vote in every different round, then again in the finals.
I’ll vote C. It’s one vote per person per day, not one vote per person overall, right?
I was going to vote C on this one, tho I have to say I think the Aaron character from the animated Prince of Egypt many years ago always struck me as how I saw Christ. I would have voted early, but my FOML #1 got enganged, split up and moved back home this WEEKEND. True story
Find it and submit it – I’ll slip it in.

So should I vote for one each day? Or just one overall?
