Yesterday Nathan mentioned in a comment that he played in the symphony last week. Now I don’t know Nathan, but I was happy for him, because he performed Mozart’s Symphony 29, and also “The Planets” by Gustav Holst. It reminded me of one of my favorite songs ever – It is one of those that speak to my spirit.
The song is “The Iron Rod”, but the familiar lyrics are set to another melody. The tune is adapted from Gustav Holst’s symphony “The Planets” I think it is the “Jupiter” movement.
Enjoy, and may you have a good Sabbath tomorrow.

This is like the only link I can find to this song 🙂 Awesome thanks.
Very nice. Thanks
how did you know we were going to sing this in sacrament meeting today?
This is beautiful! I love when they try new tunes to classic hymns!
Wow, I didn’t know the Tab Choir had used that melody. Lots of songs have been set to it, the most popular one here in the UK being “I Vow To Thee My Country”, which has beautiful lyrics, especially the final verse. The tune is called “Thaxted” – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thaxted_(tune)
Such an awesome arrangement; I had no idea they did this! Thanks for sharing. Happy Sabbath!
Very nice!

So, I’m in this choir thing called “Because We Sing”, an all male choir. We’re doing a song called “Homeland”, which is a British Patriotic song to the tune of Gustav’s “Jupiter’s Theme”. So anywayz, that’s cool.
That’s my favorite movement of “The Planets.” I don’t remember the choir doing it; Thanks for sharing.
No complaints here! 😉
YAY! I’m so glad you posted that! I remember so clearly how excited I was when they sang that and I thought it was so cool. I’ve been meaning to search around and find it again and you’ve done it for me. Sweet.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
